Abstract

In the present study, seminal characteristics and reproductive index from males e females of curimba (Prochilodus lineatus) were evaluated in different months of the reproductive period. The study was realized in the Laboratory of Reproduction of Itutinga Environmental Station of the Energetic Company of Minas Gerais State (EAI-CEMIG) and in the Laboratory of Physiology and Pharmacology of DMV/UFLA, during the reproductive period (between November and January) in three different reproductive period (year I: 2003/2004; year II: 2004/2005; year III: 2005/2006). After the hormonal treatment, the weight of females spawning was measured. Also, 20µL of semen from each male were collected to analyze the motility, duration of the motility and spermatic concentration. 8 hours after the fertilization, the fertility rate was measured. The average mobility duration and seminal volume did not present significant differences among months of the reproductive period. However, the sperm concentration increased significantly in January. In November, the spawning weight was statistically lower, compared to December and January. The highest fertility rate was observed in December. Therefore, we can conclude that, in December and January, the reproductive index for Prochilodus lineatus was better.
