Abstract
In order to verify the presence of antibodies against Trypanosoma cruzi in dogs of Barra do Pojuca, Bahia, and assess the possible occurrence of cross-reactivity or infection with Leishmania mixed sp., we tested 265 sera using ELISA and 34 using Western Blot (WB). Among the 265 sera sampled 26 (9.8%) were in the ELISA reagents for T. cruzi and of those, 12 (46.1%) were also reagents to L. chagasi, resulting in double positive antibodies by this technique. Obtained in the WB of T. cruzi 6 sera (17.6%) reagents, featuring 12 protein bands ranging from 49 to 104 kDa, 87 and 104 kDa of the higher frequency, observed in 33.3% of positive sera . In the WB of L. chagasi, 9 (26.5%) sera had 48 bands visible, ranging from 7 to 181 kDa, with of 83 kDa of the higher frequency (55.5% of the samples). Of a total of 60 bands visible, 7 (11.3 %) are common to the two agents (between 53 and 100 kDa), 6 (10 %) were viewed only in WB with antigen of T. cruzi (between 49 and 104 kDa) and the other 47 (78.3 %) were viewed only in WB with L. chagasi (between 7 and 181 kDa). Our studies point to the recognition of anti-T. Cruzi and anti-L. Chagasi in samples of serum canine of the area studied, but the techniques the ELISA and WB using crude antigen was not enough to identify with certainty and mixed reactions cross infections.Downloads
