Abstract

This study compared the internal indicator acid insoluble ash (AIA) by total fecal collection method for dry matter (DM) digestibility assay in sugarcane based diets associated with cassava hay. Five Santa Inês non castrated male rams, at18 months old and 40kg of live, body, weight were used. Animals were distributed in a latin square design, with five treatments (0; 25; 50; 75 and 100% of cassava hay DM inclusion in sugarcane diets plus 1% of urea and ammonium sulfate). For apparent dry matter digestibility assay total feces collection and AIA were used. AIA results were inadequate at estimating diets dry matter digestibility coefficient, since it overestimated data obtained by the total feces collection method.
