Cultural policy in pandemic times

The pandemic caused by Covid-19 has impacted all fields of social life, leading to an unprecedented crisis in forms of sociability and human coexistence, in economic production and in politics, especially in public policies, among other aspects. With regard to creation, circulation and cultural enjoyment, social isolation made several practices and forms of collective consumption of symbolic goods unfeasible, such as going to the cinema, museum, theater, concert hall, bookstore, library, strengthening the private relationship with the universe of culture, through the access made possible by digital media.

This context, consequently, placed in a condition of extreme vulnerability the productive chain of diverse areas of the economy of culture that look for solutions and alternatives to remain active. In reaction to this state of affairs, the cultural field has been demanding from the public authorities policies aimed at mitigating the effects of the pandemic.

This dossier wishes to gather a set of research and reflections that have as their theme the analysis of cultural policies in times of pandemic, from multiple perspectives, theories and methodologies. Thus, articles that address issues such as:

1. Diagnosis of the effects of the pandemic on the culture economy;

2. Processes of cultural policies scheduling (at national and local levels) focused on the context caused by the pandemic from the performance of various agents (artists, businessmen, politicians, media, etc.);

3. Definition and formulation of cultural policies focused on the context caused by the pandemic;

4. Implementation of cultural policies focused on the context caused by the pandemic;

5. Evaluation of cultural policies focused on the context caused by the pandemic

6. Demands and responses from different actors in the cultural sector in relation to public policies to counter the impacts of the pandemic.
