Abstract

It could be argued that, with the notion of the coloniality of power, Aníbal Quijano opened to perspective of analysis on the reality of the modern world-system whose potential exceeds the limits of reflection outlined by him. In this sense, this essay argues the relevance of applying such a perspective to the understanding of the modern and contemporary built environment. For this, starting from a review of the initial concepts of the author and other later ones, an proposed theorization for said scope of knowledge is exposed, centered on the notion “territorial coloniality“. Subsequently a state of the art of research is exposed in the same line.
