This text corresponds to Chapter 13 of the book “El final del salvaje: naturaleza, cultura y política en la antropología contemporánea”, a collection of texts in Spanish by Arturo Escobar, originally published in 1999. In the first part, contemporary networks and flows are discussed, addressing risks and trends of cyberculture. The second part introduces a definition of the concept of “place”, exemplifying local environmental struggles. The author emphasizes that women, environmentalists, and social movements in the Third World, due to their historical ties and cultural and ecological differences, are qualified to promote new forms of knowledge, being, and doing in cyberspace. The last part explores the intersection between political actors and new technologies, providing guidelines for new social and biological practices, integrating nature, culture, technology, and place (Abstract prepared by the journal editors, as there is none in the original text).
