This essay presents an analysis of the trajectory of Hip Hop in recent decades in Brazil and its relationship with the debate on the racial issue. Our objective is to understand how Hip Hop is an instrument to combat the spatial inscription of racism in Brazilian cities. Our methodology involves bibliographic analysis and musical production of rap singers who read about the Brazilian social issue. Our hypothesis is that Hip Hop has been used as an instrument to fight against various forms of oppression of silenced and subordinated groups in Brazilian society. In this way, we present how Hip Hop was constituted, how it became globalized and territorialized in Brazil, intending the historical process of segregation of the racially based space. Subsequently, we analyze the transformations of Hip Hop practices and the tensions in the forms of cultural appropriation, especially with the rise of the far right and the spread of hate speech in the country. Finally, we analyze how Hip Hop has been used in confronting the different forms of oppression in the current pandemic period.
