Abstract

Dots scratched on the floor, sung points, two ways to interpret and refer to Umbanda practices. The first related to identification and the second to the praise of the elementary forces of nature and spiritual entities. Both plural forms of connection with ancestry and spirituality present in Umbanda, that correspond to the conducting wires that guide and precede the elaboration of this article, whose objective is to raise the Umbanda terreiros in operation in Salvador, Bahia. To achieve it, in addition to the description of the discoveries and the process resulting from this search, tries to understand what Umbanda is and what its ramifications are, in order to relate them to the production of urban space in Salvador. This is a justified work, firstly, because it gives visibility to this religion and, secondly, and mainly, it presents other and necessary questions that aim to fill a gap in the academic production that accounts for the reading of Umbanda in Salvador.
