Abstract

Hans-Joachim Koellreutter (1915-2003) became known as the immigrant who introduced the twelve-tone technique in Brazil. Among his many activities to enrich Brazilian music, he was engaged in promoting Brazilian composers and composers from other South American countries at the Internationalen Ferienkursen für Neue Musik in Darmstadt. From 1949 to 1970, Koellreutter exchanged letters with the directors of the Internationales Musikinstitut Darmstadt. Settled on the material collected at IMD Archiv, the author of this article documents a part of the Darmstadt and Latin American connection from Koellreutter's perspective.
