Regional dimension in the formation of cultural life in Brazilian middle-north

Abstract

Research on the economic, social and cultural basis common to the current states of Maranhão and Piauí and the infrastructure demands involved in the formation of city life. Historiographic segmentation is carried out in two periods concerning the Luso-American phase and the annexation of Piauí’s territory to Maranhão. The historical and qualitative segmentation in four periods is proposed as an epistemological basis. Establishment of historical components related to the annexation of the territory of Piauí to Maranhão, formation of the agro-export economy of cattle, migration process, formation of riverside cities and the role played by rivers in the Meio Norte (middle-north) sub-region in the dynamics of circularities between the municipalities with reflexes in the formation of musical life. It is concluded that the historical process of the Meio Norte has repercussions on the musical current of the two states.
