Resumen

Purpose: One of the great harms to human health comes from excessive exposure and lack of protection to ultraviolet (UV) radiation. The deleterious effects are numerous and require effective protection systems. Recent strategies have been explored with different types of medicinal plants and natural compounds, obtaining significant results for photoptation. The aim of this study was to investigate the photoprotective effects of natural products in in vivo models. Methods: This is an integrative literature review. Results: The compiled data showed that the radiations most used in the studies were UVB radiation and the experimental models in animals stood out from the human models. As for the form of administration, the findings emphasized the topical route, and formulations with extracts were the most used. Conclusion: natural compounds have potential as photoprotection agents, enabling new forms of protection against damage induced by UV radiation.
