Objective: Brain trauma is considered one of the main consequences of falls with the elderly. Therefore, this study aimed to identify the epidemiological profile of elderly victims of traumatic brain injury in order to broaden the view on this problem. Methods: Descriptive and retrospective study. The study subjects are elderly (age 60 years), of both sexes, living in the metropolitan region of Porto Alegre - RS, attended at the Emergency Emergency Emergency Hospital (HPS) due to TBI from July 2019 to July 2020. The sample was determined by non-probabilistic criteria. Results: In one year, there were 330 hospitalizations for TBI in people aged 60 years or more, there was a predominance of females, which corresponds to 54.65%. The predominant age group was 60 to 69 years (36.64%), with a predominance of 45.95% of TBI considered mild, falls from own height (p = 0.001), were more frequent in the elderly age groups of 80-89 (83.1%), with a predominance of females (77.4%). Conclusion: The present study shows that the occurrence of falls, especially falls from one’s own height, in the elderly can result in a relevant health problem due to the increase in the number of hospitalizations and death related to TBI in the elderly.
