INCIDENCE OF CHIKUNGUNYA CASES IN THE BRAZILIAN NORTHEAST STATES FROM 2018 TO 2022

Objective: To analyze the incidence of Chikungunya cases in the Northeast region during the years 2018 to 2022. Methodology: This is an ecological time series study of an exploratory descriptive nature with a quantitative approach. To carry out the study, a survey of secondary data available from the Information Department of the Unified Health System (DATASUS) was carried out. The information came from the information system for notification of Chikungunya cases according to the Northeast region, in the period from 2018 to 2022. Results: In the period from 2018 to 2022, more than 453 thousand cases of Chikungunya were reported in the region Northeast, with an average Incidence Rate (TI) of 12.94 cases for every 100,000 inhabitants. Outbreaks of the disease in most states occurred from April to June 2022, with emphasis on the month of May, which saw most epidemic outbreaks. In relation to the time series and seasonality, the finding is the state of Sergipe with incidence growth behavior. Conclusion: The present study showed considerable incidence rates for Chikungunya in the Northeast region. The three highest average incidence rates were identified in Rio Grande do Norte, Ceará and Paraíba consecutively. Outbreaks of the disease in most states occurred from April to June 2022, with emphasis on the month of May, which saw most epidemic outbreaks.
