Introduction: Asthma is a chronic disease for which there is no cure. It is important to know its impact on society and predict burden for public/private financial balance. Objective: This study aims to analyze the impact of asthma in Brazil, from 2008 to 2022, and to propose public management strategies to reduce exacerbations. Methods: It´s a cross-sectional study, whose data were obtained in DATASUS/TABNET, and it searching for the ICD-10 - Respiratory System Diseases. Results: Asthma is one of the respiratory diseases that most frequently hospitalized patients in Brazil with an average of 70,508 hospitalizations/year, and it has an annual average of 2,598 deaths. Asthma is still one of the respiratory diseases that spend the most in the SUS, mainly due to the number of hospitalizations of these patients in a state of exacerbation. There is a clear seasonality in the number of hospitalizations and their expenses. Conclusion: Asthma is a chronic dissease that has no cure, and one of the main respiratory diseases, because part of the population doesn’t receive adequate care, which directly impacts the increase in the number of hospitalizations, financial expenses and poor quality of life.
