BACKGROUND: The sociodemographic profile was an important factor in the prognosis of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19). OBJECTIVE: With this, we sought to know the sociodemographic profile that most were hospitalized during the pandemic. METHOD: This is a cross-sectional study carried out at the Hospital Regional de Cajazeiras (HRC) from March 1, 2020, to May 31, 2021, using medical records. The test used was the chi-square test, the entire procedure was performed using SPSS software (Statistical Package for Social Sciences) version 25. Patients were divided into two groups, according to hospitalization data. RESULTS: Most of the hospitalized patients were male, brown, older, and without high school education. Age and education differed significantly between the two groups. Low education was also a predominant characteristic of patients, but many of them (35.7%) did not have their education registered. CONCLUSION: Therefore, with this study, it was possible to identify male gender, brown color/race, older age, and low education as the most frequent characteristics among hospitalized patients. At the same time, it is clear that social and biological factors seem to contribute to the increase in hospitalizations.
