Abstract

The article is divided into three parts besides the introduction. The first part analyses the data about violence as a Public Health problem from three different perspectives: deaths due to violence, violence against children and adolescents, and violence committed by the young people, themselves. The second part discusses the conditioning factors for violence considering the transformation of the Brazilian society as far as the deterioration of the socioeconomic conditions of the population is concerned, as well as the increase of social inequalities, the demographic growth in urban centers and the raise of social tension. This part takes into consideration the structural and dynamic familiar alteration, the lack of school structures, the influence of mass media and Internet on the construction of attitudes, habits and values as part of the routine of a large human contingent. It is also concerned with the raise of criminality, drug abuse, drugtrafficking and its connection with judicial aspects. The third part relates the conditioning factors to the people daily experiences in which life is viewed into a banal perspective. The author ends up presenting her own suggestions and conclusions.
