Abstract

The visceral leishmaniasis (VL) is a typical disease of the underdeveloped countries and is among the six endemic diseases considered priority in the world. The city of Jacobina in the State of Bahia, Brazil is a high endemic area.  An increasing number of cases in the last years have been occurring mainly in the periphery of the city. In this report, we described a case of VL in a pregnant woman, 15 year old that was not treated during the gestation and the child died with two months, weighing 1.8 Kg without confirmation of the congenital transmission.
