The simple bone cyst is a non-neoplastic lesion that represents approximately 1% of all maxillary cysts and affects the body and mandibular symphysis regions most frequently. Its etiology and pathogenesis are uncertain, as there is no explanation in the literature compatible with the clinical and histopathological characteristics of the lesion. This narrative literature review aims to document the main clinical, imaging and anatomopathological characteristics of this lesion, as well as to report the types of treatment most suitable for its resolution. It was observed that despite the simple bone cyst being considered as a rare lesion, its diagnostic suspicion is related, in most cases, to routine imaging exams for orthodontic purposes. Its etiopathogenesis has been associated with a history of possible trauma to gnathic bones and the surgical approach has been the treatment of choice. Its prognosis is good, considering the documented regeneration of the affected bone tissue. There is an urgent need to expand knowledge about the simple bone cyst for health professionals, especially dental surgeons.
}, number={2}, journal={Revista da Faculdade de Odontologia da Univeridade Federal da Bahia }, author={Lira Lima, Beatriz and Ribeiro Alves Peixoto Medrado, Alena}, year={2021}, month={maio} }
