(Genetic and phenotypic trends for growth traits of Indubrazil cattle from Sergipe state

Abstract

The objective of this study work were to estimate the genetic parameters and the genetic and phenotypic trends for weight at 205 (W205) and 365 (W365) days of age in Indubrazil cattle, born from 1970 to 2006 raised in Sergipe state. The parameters and breeding values were estimated using the software MTDFREML. The genetic and phenotypic trends were estimated by regression of the dependant variables over animal’s birth date. The heritability coefficients for W205 were 0.19 and 0.03, for direct and maternal effect, respectively. The direct heritability for W365 was 0.24.The direct genetic and phenotypic trends (linear regression) were not significant (P>0.05) for both traits. On the other hand, the maternal trend for W205 was significant (P<0.05) and equal the 0.005 kg/year.
