DE QUAL EPISTEMOLOGIA FALAMOS? DE QUAL EPISTEMOLOGIA PRECISAMOS? | WHICH EPISTEMOLOGY DO WE TALK ABOUT? WHICH EPISTEMOLOGY DO WE NEED?

Resumen

Este artigo discute a pluralidade de sentidos em que os termos “epistemologia” e “epistemológico” têm sido usados nas discussões sobre conhecimento e ciência. Procura identificar os traços principais da epistemologia tradicional e as principais críticas a ela dirigidas. Em seguida, busca fazer uma reconstrução dos motivos que podem ter guiado as escolhas teóricas dos filósofos que formularam os primeiros problemas tipicamente epistemológicos e suas respectivas tentativas de equacionamento. Por fim, retoma a noção de curiosidade epistemológica de Paulo Freire, usando-a para discutir os rumos da Linguística Aplicada.

Abstract: This article discusses the plurality of meanings in which the terms “epistemology” and “epistemological” have been used in discussions of knowledge and science. It aims to identify the main features of traditional epistemology and the main criticism directed at it. Then it seeks to make a reconstruction of the motives that may have guided the theoretical choices of philosophers who formulated the first typically epistemological problems and their respective attempts of equating. Finally, Paulo Freire’s concept of epistemological curiosity is retaken, using it to discuss the directions of Applied Linguistics.
