Structural Equation Modeling: a Method to Analyze the Complex Phenomena
Ana Luiza Machado de Codes

This paper presents a general description of the Structural Equation Modeling (SEM), a technique that stands out amongst the quantitative methods for social research thanks to its high capacity of articulating variables. Here its main characteristics are explained to the social researchers in a simple and accessible way, instead of giving priority to the technical details for its use. Topics are addressed to check the adjustment of this model, to measure mistakes and to estimate process.
