A discussão foi desenvolvida com base num estudo de caso com graduandos de Direito e Engenharia Elétrica da PUC-Rio, no ano 2000. Inspirando-se nos trabalhos de Pierre Bourdieu e em autores nacionais que discutem a questão da mobilidade social no contexto brasileiro, procura-se analisar o peso relativo da situação ocupacional dos pais, seu capital cultural e os investimentos educacionais correlatos que realizam frente às opções de carreira profissional dos filhos no momento do vestibular. This discussion was based on a case study on senior year students of electrical engineering and law of the </span><span style="color: black;" lang="EN-US">Pontifical</span><span style="color: black;" lang="EN-US">Catholic</span><span style="color: black;" lang="EN-US">University</span><span style="color: black;" lang="EN-US"> in </span><span style="color: black;" lang="EN-US">Rio</span><span style="color: black;" lang="EN-US"> in the year 2000. Inspired by the works of Pierre Bourdieu and some Brazilian authors who discuss social mobility in a Brazilian context, the relative weight of the parents’ cultural capital and ocupational situation is analyzed, along with the educational investiments they do in the face of their children’s professional career options at the time of the University entrance exams (<em>Vestibular</em>). C’est à partir des travaux de Pierre Bourdieu et d’autres auteurs nationaux qui traitent de la question de la mobilié sociale dans le contexte brésilien, que nous avons essayé d’analyser le poids relatif de la situation occupationnelle des parents et de leur capital culturel par rapport aux investissements éducationnels qu’ils effectuent pour garantir les options professionnelles de leurs enfants au moment du baccalauréat.
