Introduction: Liver disease can impact child growth and development, changing the routine of children and family members. Objective: To describe the functional abilities of children/adolescents with chronic liver diseases. Method: Sectional, descriptive and exploratory study, carried out between November/2018 to March/2020 at the Pediatric Hepatology Center, a reference in the state of Bahia, Brazil. Children/adolescents with liver disease from six months to seventeen years old were evaluated with native (NL) or transplanted (TxH) livers in outpatient care, with the help of their legal guardians. A questionnaire was applied to assess the clinical and sociodemographic profile. Functional skills were assessed by the Pediatric Disability Assessment Inventory Adaptive Computerized Testing, quick version (PEDI-CAT), for the domains: activities of daily living, mobility, social and cognitive domain, in addition to responsibility for over 6 years. Results: A total of 56.2% of the individuals were female and the majority 79.5% had NL. About 53.4% and 46.6% were over and under 6, respectively. In individuals with NL younger than 6 years old, the normative scores (activities of daily living, mobility, and social-cognitive) were 60.80 ± 8.49, 58.67 ± 10.63, and 49.13 ± 6.54, respectively. In TxH, they were 53.00 ± 4.08, 48.00 ± 4.24, and 50.00 ± 2.16, respectively. For children/adolescents with FL older than 6 years old, the domain of responsibility is added, with values of 51.12 ± 10.71, 37.96 ± 15.75, 39.08 ± 12.69, and 49.84 being found ± 11.87. In those with TxH, 50.55 ± 8.28, 34.55 ± 22.38, 40.27 ± 11.31, 49.82 ± 8.75 were found. Conclusion: Children/adolescents with chronic liver diseases showed no impairment in their functional abilities and were able to learn and perform their daily activities.Downloads
